Ted has a broad civil/commercial practice across Chambers’ practice areas and is regularly instructed in substantial commercial litigation, both led and unled. He also maintains a specialist interest in charity law.

In 2019 and 2020 Ted worked at the UK Supreme Court where he served as Judicial Assistant to Lord Briggs of Westbourne. This gives him a unique insight into what it takes to succeed in court.

Alongside his wider practice, Ted passionately believes in improving access to justice. He is a volunteer at the South Westminster Legal Advice Centre and acts on a voluntary basis through the Bar Pro Bono Unit, law centres and other pro-bono schemes.

      Ted regularly acts in all manner of commercial disputes, both led and unled. He is comfortable taking on all sizes of cases, from those involving individuals or small businesses, to heavy and high-value litigation or arbitration. He is valued for his ability to cut to the heart of factually complex cases and advise on wider strategy and tactics in order to get a result for his clients.

    • Civil Fraud

      Ted regularly across a wide range of civil fraud cases, both led and unled, including claims for deceit, breach of fiduciary duty and allegations of misconduct by directors and other fiduciaries.

      He has broad experience of assisting with the full range of interim remedies applications including freezing and proprietary injunctions; Norwich Pharmacal and Bankers’ Trust orders; and more recent remedies such as notification injunctions and document imaging orders.

    • Company & Partnership

      Ted has a strong and growing practice in the law of partnerships and LLPs. He is always happy to help partners and partnerships to navigate their entitlements, and to strengthen their position in potential disputes. He has a particular interest in:

      • allegations of discrimination or unfair treatment of partners
      • removal and potential removal of partners, including disputes arising out of attempts at expulsion
      • cases involving a combination of partnership and company law, partnership and contracts, or partnership and civil fraud/breaches of duty
    • Insolvency & Asset Recovery

      Ted is comfortable with all regular insolvency applications and regularly acts for debtors, creditors and other parties in insolvency-related proceedings. He is currently instructed in Re Great Annual Savings Group Ltd, a contested application for a Pt 26A restructuring plan.

      His knowledge of insolvency law is often useful in fraud cases where clients wish to ensure that assets are available for recovery. Alongside this he has broad experience of assisting with the full range of interim remedies applications including freezing and proprietary injunctions; Norwich Pharmacal and Bankers’ Trust orders; and more recent remedies such as notification injunctions and document imaging orders.

    • Charities

      Ted has a successful charities practice and is rapidly establishing himself as one of the most demanded advocates at the junior end of the charities Bar.

      Ted is happy to advise on regulatory and disciplinary matters facing charities, the conduct of trustees, the interpretation of trust deeds and other governing documents, civil and property matters, and the changes being introduced by the Charities Act 2022.

      His clients range from churches and mosques, to NGOs and pressure groups, to local authorities. He has also worked as a secondee at the Charity Commission for England and Wales.

      Current instructions include:

      • the high-profile challenge to LGB Alliance’s charitable status;
      • the dispute relating to the sale of Ealing Town Hall;
      • assisting with complaints that the Global Warming Policy Foundation is engaged in unlawful lobbying;
      • acting (with Andrew Westwood KC) in the dispute about ownership of the Abbey Mills mosque, which is scheduled for trial in summer 2023.
    • Media & Entertainment

      Ted has advised and represented clients across the music, theatre and film industries, with a focus on commercial, company and insolvency litigation. Notable recent cases in this sphere include THJ Systems Ltd v Sheridan (2023) and Active Media Services Inc v Burmester Duncker and Joly GmbH & Co KG [2021] EWHC 232 (Comm) & [2021] EWHC 352 (Comm).

    • Professional Negligence

      Ted acts in professional negligence cases overlapping with his other areas of specialism. Recent instructions include a substantial negligence claim against solicitors and a claim against a financial institution.

    • ADR

      Ted considers ADR at all stages of disputes where he is instructed. He enjoys attending mediations as advocate and adviser, and always ensures that the litigation is run with an eye to strengthening his clients’ position in any settlement negotiations.
